🍷 Wine routes
Tourist routes through wine country with cellars and tastings.
Wine routes are tourist itineraries through wine country. Along them stand cellars, wineries, shops and restaurants where local wines can be tasted. Routes are marked with special signs, and in different countries they have their own names and rules.
A route may be a small path between villages or may cover a whole region. The traveller visits a winery, looks at the vineyards and cellars, learns how wine is made and tries it at a tasting. Other attractions are often close by: museums, castles, markets selling cheese and local produce.
Wine routes are part of wine tourism. For winemakers it is a way to tell about themselves and to sell wine directly. For a region it is extra income and a reason to keep vineyards and traditions alive.
Remember: if you travel a wine route by car, taste with care or choose a trip with a driver, a bicycle or on foot. Many routes are designed for walking.
