🍷 Glass stopper
A glass stopper with a thin seal.
A glass stopper is a closure for a wine bottle in the form of a glass "mushroom" with a thin sealing ring. It is inserted into the neck like an ordinary stopper, but it is not made of oak bark. It is most often found under the brand name Vinolok.
The seal is made of soft plastic or another elastic material. It fits the neck tightly and keeps air out. Glass has no smell and does not change the taste of the wine. So there is no cork taint, as with some natural corks.
A glass stopper can be removed and put back: the bottle is closed again. It looks beautiful, so it is often chosen for white and rosé wines and for gift bottles.
The drawback is price: it costs more than an ordinary stopper. It also needs bottles with special necks. It is a stopper, not a cap: it belongs to a different kind of closure from the screw cap, though it also protects wine from cork taint.
