🍷 Half bottle (0.375 l)
A 375 ml bottle, half the usual size.
A half bottle is a wine bottle holding 375 millilitres. That is half of the standard 750 millilitre bottle. It is sometimes called a demi.
Why is such a bottle needed? For one person, or a couple who need only a couple of glasses. It is handy in a restaurant if you want to try a wine without a big order. Half bottles are often used for sweet and dessert wines, because they are drunk in small portions. For example, many wines made with noble rot are sold this way.
There is one feature: wine in a small bottle usually ages faster. The volume of wine is smaller, and there is relatively more air in the neck, so it matures sooner. For long keeping it is not the best format.
The half bottle is part of the system of wine bottle sizes, which also includes larger ones: the magnum, jeroboam and others. It is the most common of the small ones.
