🍇 Queen of the Vineyards
An early Muscat table grape bred in Hungary in 1916.
Queen of the Vineyards is an early muscat table grape bred in Hungary in 1916. The Hungarian name can be translated as "queen of the vineyards". The breeder was the Hungarian János Mathiász, a well-known grower of his time.
It is a table variety, grown first of all to be eaten and not for wine. The berries are large, pale and muscat-scented, and ripen early, usually in August. The bunch is loose, so it is convenient to eat. For these reasons the variety became popular in Hungary and neighbouring countries.
It was also used in breeding: it is linked to a number of varieties, among them Cardinal, Early Muscat, Perlette, Augusta, Palatina, Narancsízű, Perle de Csaba, Pannónia Kincse and Datier de Beyrouth. It is in the list of grape varieties and tied to Hungarian wine as a table grape. It shows that grapes differ: not only for wine, but also for fresh eating.
