🌿 Grape
The berries of the grapevine, whose juice becomes wine, juice and raisins.
Grapes are the berries of the grapevine. Wine and juice are made from their juice, and dried berries become raisins. The berries grow in bunches on a vine cultivated in a vineyard. Wine is most often made from the species Vitis vinifera.
Berries can be white, pink or dark. They contain sugar, acids and compounds that give colour and flavour. The skin holds pigments and tannins, the pulp holds juice, and the seeds hold oil and tannins. The juice gives must. When yeast turns the sugar into alcohol, the must becomes wine. Variety, soil, climate and the weather of the year change the taste.
Besides wine, grapes are eaten fresh, dried, and made into juice, vinegar, seed oil and spirits. Table grapes are grown separately from wine grapes. In Ukraine grapes grow in the south, including Crimea, the Odesa region and Transcarpathia.
