Appellation ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 3 Updated:

Red wines from north of Pomerol, mostly from Merlot.

Lalande-de-Pomerol is a red wine with a protected name from Bordeaux, France. The area lies north of famous Pomerol, in the Libourne district, on the right bank of the Dordogne. The main grape is Merlot, with Cabernet Franc and a little of other varieties added.

The soils vary: gravel, sand and clay. The right bank of Bordeaux is known for Merlot in general, and Lalande-de-Pomerol is part of that tradition. The wines are soft and round, tasting of plum, black berries and spice. They are usually less costly than the wines of Pomerol itself, but the quality is good.

Many estates are small and family-run. The wine can be drunk a few years after the harvest, and the best bottles age for ten years or more. It is served with meat, game and cheese.

Lalande-de-Pomerol belongs to the red wines of Libourne. The name is protected: genuine wine is made only in this area from grapes grown there. The name is easily confused with Pomerol, but they are different names. Alcohol is for adults.
