πŸ‡ Petite Arvine

Grape variety βœ” Checked: 10.2026 Β· sources: 3

A white grape from Valais, Switzerland, giving dry and sweet wines.

Petite Arvine is a white grape from the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It is one of the best local varieties of the region. It grows on steep sunny slopes in the RhΓ΄ne valley near the towns of Sion, Conthey and Fully. It is also grown in the Italian Aosta Valley.

The grape ripens late and needs a warm, dry summer. Valais is one of the driest places in Switzerland, and the climate suits. The berries give a wine with good acidity and a characteristic aroma of grapefruit, rhubarb and a slight salty note often linked to minerality.

The wines vary. Most often they are dry whites, fresh and bright. But with a late harvest, sweet wines with high sugar and the same fresh acidity are also made. The best examples can age for many years.

Petite Arvine belongs to Swiss wine and to the general list of grape varieties. It is rarely found outside Switzerland and Italy, so it is regarded as a regional speciality of Valais.
