🥃 Bladnoch Vinaya
Single malt Bladnoch whisky with no age statement from the Classic Collection: first-fill bourbon and sherry casks; 46.7% ABV.
Bladnoch Vinaya is the base expression of the Classic Collection, the permanent range of the Bladnoch distillery in the Scottish Lowlands. It carries no age statement and is bottled at 46.7% ABV, according to Whisky for Everyone and WhiskyNotes. The name comes from Sanskrit and conveys respect and gratitude. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.
It is made from barley malt at a distillery revived after 2015. According to both sources, it matures in first-fill bourbon and sherry casks, which head distiller Nick Savage selects and blends. Whisky for Everyone describes the taste as fresh apple, sweet flowery grass and a touch of chocolate.
Why this matters to you. Vinaya is the simplest way to taste the house style. Bladnoch Samsara uses red wine casks instead of sherry, Bladnoch Alinta is peated, and Bladnoch Liora has higher strength and new oak. The WHO reminds: there is no safe level of alcohol.

What to read next
- 🍷 Alcohol and health — Alcohol in any drink is harmful in large amounts, and the risks grow with the quantity.
- 🥃 Barley and malt in whisky — Malted barley is the base of whisky: malt enzymes convert starch in the mash, and EU whisky is distilled below 94.8% vol.
- 🍷 Drunk driving — Never drive after drinking wine: alcohol slows your reactions.
- 🥃 Ex-bourbon barrel — American white oak cask of 180–200 litres used for bourbon: bourbon may only be aged in new charred casks, so used ones go to Scotch, Irish whiskey and rum.
