🍇 Blatina

Grape variety ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 3

A red grape from Herzegovina, grown around Mostar.

Blatina is a red grape from Herzegovina, in the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It grows around the city of Mostar and in nearby places. It is a local grape, and many of its wines are made by small estates.

Herzegovina is a warm land with stony soils and hot summers. Winegrowing here has a long history. Blatina ripens late and gives dark, full wine with soft tannins. It is often a red wine with a bright fruit taste, sometimes slightly sweetish, because the grapes gather a lot of sugar.

The grape grows in the areas of Čitluk (Medjugorje), Ljubuški, Čapljina and Stolac. These are the main places where it is planted.

Blatina shows that Bosnia and Herzegovina has its own wine traditions. Its wines are mostly drunk locally and are little known outside the region.
