🥃 Chivas Regal 18 Year Old Gold Signature
18-year-old blended Chivas Regal Scotch whisky; 40% ABV; all whiskies in the blend are at least 18 years old; created in 1997.
Chivas Regal 18 Year Old Gold Signature is the older blend in the Chivas Regal range. According to Difford's Guide, it is a mix of grain whisky and a large share of single malts, all aged at least 18 years. Its strength is 40% ABV, and its release is dated 1997.
As the source notes, the blend was created by Chivas Brothers master blender Colin Scott. The single malts come mainly from Pernod Ricard distilleries in Speyside, among them Strathisla, which the brand calls its “spiritual home”. Difford's Guide does not name the cask types. Under the Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009, any stated age corresponds to the youngest whisky in the blend.
Why this matters to you. In this version all the whiskies are at least 18 years old, so it is compared with the 12-year-old by maturity and complexity rather than by strength: both have 40% ABV. This is a blend, not a single malt. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol.
