🧑🤝🧑 British
Also known as: Britons, British people
Cheddar and Stilton; the tradition of tea with milk.
Britain, with its mild, damp climate and green pastures, is cow country. Well-known dairy breeds were developed on the islands — Jersey, Guernsey and Ayrshire.
Cheddar, a hard cheese named after the village of Cheddar in Somerset, is today the best-known British cheese. It is made all over the world, but “West Country Farmhouse Cheddar” from south-west England is protected as a designation of origin. Stilton, a blue cheese from central England, is protected too. Lancashire, Wensleydale and Cheshire are also well known.
A distinctly British habit is tea with milk. It spread in the 18th–19th centuries, when tea became a mass drink; arguing over whether to pour the milk before or after the tea is part of everyday culture. A traditional cream tea is tea with scones, clotted cream and jam.
