The stronger expression of Crown Royal: a Canadian blended whisky, 45% ABV, matured in charred oak casks.

Crown Royal Black is the stronger expression of the Crown Royal brand: a Canadian blended whisky that the producer bottles at 45% ABV. It matured in charred oak casks. The producer describes it as rich and full-bodied, with deeper oak notes than Fine De Luxe.

According to the producer, the nose offers oak with maple sweetness, the palate is creamy and velvety with dried fruit such as fig, and the finish is deeper, in a bourbon style. The share of casks, their age and the grain mix are not disclosed. According to Bourbon Guy's review, it is stronger than the original release and gives more oak notes. Bourbon is made in another country and under other rules, so this is only a comparison of taste.

Why this matters to you. Black is a step from the soft Fine De Luxe towards a richer taste; Northern Harvest Rye has the same strength but is made from rye. Compare them on the label. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
