📍 Flanders
The northern, Dutch-speaking part of the country.
Flanders is the northern Dutch-speaking part of Belgium. A small amount of wine is made here. The climate is cool and damp, so vineyards are small and grape choice is cautious.
The main wine areas are Hageland, Haspengouw and Heuvelland. They have hills where grapes ripen well. Growers plant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and also hybrid grapes that cope better with dampness, such as Johanniter.
Wine is sold under the names "Vlaamse landwijn" (Flemish country wine) and "Flemish quality sparkling wine". Most often these are fresh white and sparkling wines with good acidity.
Flanders is part of Belgian wine together with Wallonia. It is a young wine region that is developing fast: many estates appeared in recent decades.
