🥃 Longmorn 22 Year Old
The older of the two core Longmorn expressions since 2024: 22 years mainly in American oak; cask strength, not chill-filtered.
Longmorn 22 Year Old is the older of the two expressions that have formed the core of the official Longmorn range since 2024. Both were released ahead of the distillery's 130th anniversary. The whisky is bottled at cask strength: the 2024 batch was 54.5% ABV, according to The Spirits Business.
Like the 18-year-old, it matures mainly in American oak: according to Elite Traveler, in bourbon casks of first and second fill with a small share of hogsheads. According to Whisky Magazine, the whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. The barley malt is unpeated. According to Fred Minnick, Chivas Brothers emphasises the creamy iris profile typical of Longmorn.
Why this matters to you. Compared with Longmorn 18 Year Old, it has four more years of maturation and a slightly lower strength, so there are more nutty and woody notes. The batches are annual, so check the year on the bottle; because of the cask strength, it is best tasted with a few drops of water. The WHO notes that there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption.

- 🍷 Alcohol and health — Alcohol in any drink is harmful in large amounts, and the risks grow with the quantity.
- 🥃 Barley and malt in whisky — Malted barley is the base of whisky: malt enzymes convert starch in the mash, and EU whisky is distilled below 94.8% vol.
- 🐝 American white oak — A North American oak that gives wine strong vanilla and coconut notes.
- 🍷 Drunk driving — Never drive after drinking wine: alcohol slows your reactions.
- 🥃 Ex-bourbon barrel — American white oak cask of 180–200 litres used for bourbon: bourbon may only be aged in new charred casks, so used ones go to Scotch, Irish whiskey and rum.
