🥃 Benromach Contrasts: Organic

Spirit line ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 5 Updated:

Organic Benromach whisky, Soil Association certified since 2006; new American oak casks; current bottlings 46% ABV, unpeated.

Benromach Contrasts: Organic is an organic single malt from Benromach distillery. According to Difford's Guide, in 2006 it became the first single malt to be fully certified by the British Soil Association. It is now a permanent expression of the Contrasts series; current batches, according to the official website, are 46% ABV and unpeated.

The certification covers the whole process, from organic barley to maturation. According to the official website, the whisky matures in new American oak casks that had not held anything before; a batch distilled in 2015 was matured for 9 years. Older batches, according to Difford's Guide, were 43% ABV and used malt dried with peat, so the recipe has changed.

Why it matters to you. Unlike Benromach 10 Year Old, there is no smoke here, and the new casks bring more malt, banana and cocoa. Check the distillation year on the bottle, since strength and taste depend on it. The WHO reminds: there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
