🍇 Tămâioasă Românească
An aromatic Muscat-type grape of Romania for sweet wines.
Tămâioasă Românească is an aromatic muscat grape from Romania. It is the local name of Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains. The grape is well known in the country and used for sweet and off-dry wines with a strong floral and muscat smell.
The best wines come from the areas of Pietroasa and Cotnari. In Pietroasa it makes a sweet wine, and in Cotnari in the east of the country it goes into local sweet wines. The grape also grows on the slopes of Dealu Mare, in Muntenia, Oltenia and Moldavia. The berries give golden wines smelling of grapes, flowers and honey.
Tămâioasă also comes dry, sparkling and fortified. Its sweet wines are served with desserts and fruit. The grape is part of Romanian viticulture, one of the old traditions in the east of Europe. The name is linked to the Romanian word "tămâie", meaning frankincense, because of its aroma. It is an example of how muscat takes on a local character in different countries.
