📜 Verdicchio di Matelica
White wine from Verdicchio from the mountain valley around Matelica.
Verdicchio di Matelica is a white wine with a protected name from the Marche region in central Italy. It is made from the Verdicchio grape in a mountain valley around the town of Matelica, in the inland part of the region. The name belongs to one of the two main Verdicchio areas in Marche, the other being Castelli di Jesi.
The valley lies higher and further from the sea than Jesi, and the climate is cooler and more continental. Summers are not too hot and nights are cool, so the grapes ripen slowly and keep their acidity. The wines are fresh and mineral, with aromas of lemon, green apple, almond and herbs.
Good Verdicchio di Matelica can be aged for several years. It becomes fuller and more complex. The rules of the name also allow sparkling and dessert wines, and aged versions are called riserva. The wine suits fish, seafood, white meat and cheese.
Verdicchio di Matelica belongs to the Marche and to the Verdicchio grape. Alcohol is for adults and best taken in moderation.
