🍷 White wine
Wine made from grape juice without the skins; it can come from pale and even dark berries.
White wine is wine made from grape juice that has had little or no contact with the skins. White wine is made from grape juice that has almost no contact with the skins. The grapes are pressed, the juice is separated straight away and fermented on its own. That is why the wine is pale, from light straw to golden. Most white wine comes from light-skinned grapes, but dark grapes work too: the flesh of most red varieties is colourless.
White wine usually has 10–14% alcohol. It ferments at a lower temperature than red wine to keep fresh fruit and flower aromas. Some whites are drunk young; others are aged in barrel or on the lees, which gives a fuller taste.
White wine can be dry, medium-sweet, sweet, still or sparkling. It is made in almost every wine area of Europe, from Styria and Carinthia in Austria to Haspengouw and Maasvallei Limburg in Belgium. It is served chilled, at about 8–12 °C.
