🍷 Wine tank truck
A truck with a tank for carrying wine.
A wine tank truck is a lorry or trailer with a large tank that carries wine without bottles. The tank is made of stainless steel, which does not change the taste and is easy to clean. Its capacity is measured in tens of thousands of litres.
Why it exists. Part of the wine is sold in bulk, in large lots. It is taken from the winery to a bottling plant or another buyer. This is cheaper and simpler than moving millions of bottles. Such wine is called bulk wine.
Temperature matters for wine. Sun and heat can spoil it on the road, so tanks are often insulated. Before loading, the tank is washed carefully and sometimes filled with an inert gas so the wine does not touch air.
A wine tanker is built almost like a milk tanker: a tank, pumps and hoses for loading and unloading. Wine and milk behave differently, but the idea of moving liquid in bulk is the same. For sea transport, flexitanks are also used.
