🥃 Aberlour Casg Annamh
Aberlour line with no age statement and Oloroso sherry casks; the Gaelic name means rare cask; launched in 2018.
Aberlour Casg Annamh is a single malt Scotch whisky from Aberlour with no age statement. The name means rare cask in Gaelic. The Spirits Business reported its launch on 1 August 2018. Sources differ on strength: that publication gives 48% ABV, while Pernod Ricard's page gives 40%, so check the label.
According to The Spirits Business, the whisky matures in Oloroso sherry casks selected from traditional bodegas in Spain. Pernod Ricard describes it as a rich single malt with sherry maturation. The publication notes orange, glacé cherries, raisins and ginger on the palate, then apple and cinnamon crumble, peach, liquorice and clove. The producer does not disclose other cask types.
Why this matters to you. This is a sherry-led line without an age statement, so compare it with the 18 Year Old and A'bunadh by style rather than by years. For some drinkers it is an entry point into sherry-matured whiskies. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
