🥃 The Glenrothes 18 Year Old
Single malt The Glenrothes 18 Year Old: only sherry-seasoned casks, a large share of first-fill casks; 43 % ABV; natural colour; from the Soleo collection of late 2018.
The Glenrothes 18 Year Old is a Scottish single malt whisky from The Glenrothes distillery in Speyside. The youngest whisky in the bottle is at least 18 years old, and the strength is 43 % ABV. It appeared in the Soleo collection when, at the end of 2018, the brand replaced its vintage releases with age-stated whiskies.
According to the producer's description, quoted by Kensington Wine Market, the whisky matured only in casks seasoned with sherry, a large share of them first-fill. The colour is natural, with no added colouring. Drinkhacker writes that the whole Soleo collection is matured in sherry casks from start to finish. The producer names orange oil, vanilla, pear and almond among the notes.
Why this matters to you. 18 years sits in the middle of the permanent range: The Glenrothes 15 Year Old is younger and also sherry-matured, and The Glenrothes 25 Year Old is older. For comparison, The Macallan Sherry Oak 18 Years Old is a good choice: also a Speyside whisky from sherry casks, but from another distillery of the Edrington group. The WHO reminds: there is no safe dose of alcohol.
