🥃 Bruichladdich Octomore
Series of the most heavily peated single malts from Bruichladdich on Islay; first release in 2008; 80 to over 160 ppm according to sources.
Bruichladdich Octomore is a series of the most heavily peated single malts from the Bruichladdich distillery on the island of Islay. The first release appeared in 2008. Sources disagree on the peat level: Whiskypedia writes about more than 80 ppm, while Difford's Guide gives 160 ppm and more. The exact figure depends on the release.
Octomore comes out as separate numbered releases, which one review describes as limited batches of extremely heavily peated whisky. It is therefore not one unchanging drink but a line in which each release has its own data on barley, peat, casks and strength. According to Difford's Guide, one version is made only from Scottish barley. Strength and casks are not given in these sources, so check the label.
Why this matters to you. Octomore is more of a tasting series for people who already know the Islay style, so compare it with Port Charlotte and The Classic Laddie rather than with everyday whiskies. Always check the release number, the ppm and the strength. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
