📍 Gascony
The hills of Gascony, known for white wines and Armagnac.
Gascony is a historical area in south-west France. The hills of Gascony are known for white wines and Armagnac, a strong spirit distilled from wine. The climate is mild, with damp Atlantic air and many green hills.
The area has several wine zones: Saint-Mont, Tursan, Brulhois and Côtes de Gascogne. A sweet fortified drink, Floc de Gascogne, is also made here. Most of the area lies in the départements of Gers and Landes. White wines are fresh and fruity, made from the local grapes Colombard and Gros Manseng and from Ugni Blanc, also called Trebbiano. Reds are made in Saint-Mont and Tursan.
Gascony belongs to the South-West of France. Its wines are often inexpensive but have bright acidity and aroma. Grapes here are grown not only for wine but also for Armagnac. The area is interesting because it keeps old traditions and little-known local grapes.
