Regional wines of Gascony, above all fresh whites from Colombard.

Côtes de Gascogne is the name of regional wines from Gascony, a historic area in southwestern France. These are wines with a protected geographical indication. The area is also known for Armagnac, and many grapes go both into wine and into distillation.

The main wines are fresh whites. They are made from Colombard, and also from Ugni Blanc, Gros Manseng and Sauvignon Blanc. Colombard gives a bright aroma of citrus and exotic fruit, Ugni Blanc acidity, Gros Manseng body. The wines are light and fruity, drunk young and chilled. Reds and rosés are also made, but in smaller amounts.

Ugni Blanc, also known as Trebbiano, is the base for Armagnac, and for cognac as well. Grapes grown in a warm oceanic climate keep their freshness.

Côtes de Gascogne is a still wine, usually affordable. It goes well with salads, fish, seafood and poultry.
