🥃 Grey Goose La Poire
The Grey Goose La Poire line: a flavoured vodka with Anjou pears on a wheat vodka base; 30 or 40% ABV.
Grey Goose La Poire is the pear-flavoured vodka of the Grey Goose brand, the last of the three classic flavoured versions: according to the brand it dates from 2006, and according to Difford's Guide it was launched in the United States on 1 February 2007. The base is Grey Goose Vodka, and the pears come from Anjou. According to the producer, the strength is 30 or 40% ABV depending on the market.
Production. According to Difford's Guide, the pear flavour is made of three parts: a single pot still distillate of washed, crushed and steeped Williams pears from Anjou, an essence from vacuum-concentrated pear juice, and an infusion of Williams pears. These are mixed with Grey Goose Vodka. The producer describes a fruity, floral nose and a sweet, crisp taste; Difford's Guide tasters note pear skin, lemon zest and black pepper.
Why it matters for you. Choose La Poire for a pear accent, and compare it with L'Orange and Le Citron: those are citrusy, this one is softer and rounder. It is a flavoured vodka in EU category 31, not a liqueur. Check the percentage on the label. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
