🥃 Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack

Spirit line ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 4 Updated:

Jack Daniel’s line with a second charcoal mellowing after maturation; 40% ABV, since 1988.

Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack is a Tennessee whiskey line which, according to Difford’s Guide, was introduced in the US in 1988. It is bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) with no age statement. It differs from Old No. 7 by its double charcoal mellowing: the spirit passes through charcoal twice.

First the spirit trickles for several days through about three metres (10 feet) of sugar maple charcoal, then matures in new charred American white oak barrels. After maturation, according to Difford’s, it goes through a second, much shorter stage: about one metre of charcoal and only a few minutes. The producer also says the whiskey is mellowed twice, before and after maturation. According to Difford’s, apart from the packaging, the rest matches the standard line.

Why it matters for you. Gentleman Jack is chosen for its softer, silkier character at the same strength as Old No. 7. The difference comes from the process, not from age or strength. WHO reminds us: there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
