Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select is a Tennessee whiskey line in which each bottle comes from a single barrel. The strength varies across sources: Difford’s Guide gives 45% ABV, while the producer’s press room gives 94 proof, which is about 47%, so check the current label. There is no age statement.
According to Difford’s, the barrels are taken from the upper racks of the warehouse, where stronger temperature swings speed up maturation. The whiskey usually matures for 5.5–6 years, not less than five and sometimes up to eight, which is 18–24 months longer than standard No. 7. The barrels are selected by tasters; the producer says this is about one in a hundred. The barrel number, bottling date and rack location are printed on the neck of the bottle.
Why it matters for you. Because each barrel is separate, batches differ in taste; compare them by the barrel number on the neck. This is a different strength level from Old No. 7 and Gentleman Jack. WHO reminds us: there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
