A commune in the inland Médoc, firm red wines from Cabernet and Merlot.

Listrac-Médoc is a commune and appellation in the Médoc, in Bordeaux in south-western France. It lies inland on the peninsula, farther from the Gironde river than its more famous neighbours. The name is protected as a PDO. Still red wines are made here from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

The vineyards stand on higher ground, on gravel and clay soils. These soils hold water more strongly than those near the river, so the wines are fuller and more tannic. The climate is cooler than on the coast, and grapes ripen later.

Listrac-Médoc wines are considered robust, with notes of blackcurrant and spice. They need time to soften, usually several years. Prices are lower than for the most famous Médoc villages, so it is an interesting option for getting to know the Bordeaux style.

Listrac-Médoc is often mentioned alongside Moulis-en-Médoc. They are neighbours, but their soils differ. As across Bordeaux, the wine is usually made from a blend of grapes.
