🧑💼 Merchandiser
Stocks the shelves and removes expired products.
A merchandiser is a shop worker who looks after how products are displayed on the shelves. A merchandiser stocks the shelves in a shop. Their job is to make sure shoppers can always find the product they need and the shelf looks tidy. A merchandiser often works not for the shop but for the maker or supplier: this way shops save on their own staff.
The dairy section is special. Milk, kefir, yoghurt and curd cheese sit in chilled display cases. They must be stocked quickly so the products do not warm up. The merchandiser keeps an eye on the dates. Products with an earlier date go to the front so they are bought first. Out-of-date goods are taken off the shelf.
They also check price tags, arrange goods according to a plan set by the shop or supplier, and make sure there are no gaps on the shelf. They notice which products sell out fast and report it. Interestingly, many supermarkets put milk and bread at the far end of the store. On the way there, shoppers walk past other goods. This is also part of merchandising, the skill of showing goods the right way.
