🥃 Powers Gold Label
Core blended whiskey of the Powers brand: pot still and grain whiskey from Midleton; 43.2% ABV (40% in some markets), no age statement.
Powers Gold Label is the core version of the Powers brand, a blended Irish whiskey without an age statement. Strength depends on the market: British sellers and VinePair give 43.2% ABV, Difford's Guide gives 40% ABV. This whiskey became the first bottling of the brand in 1886 at the John's Lane distillery in Dublin.
Gold Label is a blend of Irish single pot still whiskey, triple distilled in copper pot stills, and grain whiskey. Pot still is made from malted and unmalted barley, and it gives the blend its distinctive spicy character. According to a British seller, the whiskey matures in American oak casks previously used for bourbon and is bottled without chill filtration. It is now made at Midleton.
Why it matters to you. This is the starting point of the brand. Powers Three Swallow and Powers John's Lane are pure single pot still, without grain whiskey. Compared with Jameson Original, Gold Label has more pot still. Check the strength on the label in your market. WHO reminds that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
