🥃 Jameson Original
The base line of Jameson: a blend of pot still and grain whiskey from Midleton; 40% ABV, no age statement.
Jameson Original is the base expression of the Jameson brand, sold in many countries simply as Jameson Irish Whiskey. It is a blend of Irish pot still and grain whiskey from Midleton, bottled at 40% ABV with no age statement; it is often used as the reference point for the whole range.
According to Difford’s Guide, pot still is made from malted and unmalted barley, while the grain whiskey is distilled in column stills. The grain component matures in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, and the pot still spends 5–6 years in ex-bourbon casks with some sherry casks included. The Whiskey Wash describes the mix as bourbon and sherry casks.
Why it matters for you. Original is the reference point for the rest of the range: compare it with Black Barrel (more pot still), Caskmates (an extra finish in beer casks) and Crested (more sherry). The name “Irish Whiskey” requires at least three years of maturation on the island of Ireland. WHO reminds us: there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
