🥃 Speyburn Bourbon Cask
Speyburn expression without an age statement, released in 2024: a single malt matured only in casks that once held bourbon; 40% ABV; sold without a box.
Speyburn Bourbon Cask is a single malt from Speyburn distillery with no age statement. It appeared in May 2024 in the brand's renewed core range. Its strength is 40% ABV. According to the producer, it is the first Speyburn sold without an outer box.
The whisky matures only in casks that previously held bourbon, which according to the producer give soft spice. The brand does not disclose how many years the whisky spends in cask. Its description lists green apple, honey and lemon on the nose, and vanilla, brown sugar and cream on the palate; The Luxe Review notes a long, soft finish.
Why it matters to you. This is the lightest entry into the Speyburn style. Speyburn 10 Year Old has a stated age, while Speyburn Rum Cask Finish adds a spell in rum casks after the bourbon casks. Tasted side by side, the difference shows what the cask contributes. WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
