The Glenlivet 18 Year Old is a Speyside single malt with 18 years of maturation and 43 % vol. according to Difford's Guide. The reviewer found honey, fruit cake, pears, dried apricots, nuts, vanilla and cinnamon. It is one of the older permanent expressions in The Glenlivet range, above the 12 and 15 year olds.
The whisky matures in first-fill and refill casks of American and European oak; although it is not a sherry whisky, it contains more sherry casks than the younger expressions. The base is local unpeated barley malt, water from Josie's Well and copper stills at Ballindalloch. An 18-year age is far above the three years the law requires for Scotch.
