🥃 GlenDronach 18 Year Old Allardice
Line of The GlenDronach: 18 years, 46% ABV, matured only in Oloroso sherry casks; the Allardice name has been used since 2009.
GlenDronach 18 Year Old Allardice is an 18-year-old Highland single malt from The GlenDronach at 46% ABV. According to Difford's Guide, it is the third line of the core range, and it received the Allardice name in 2009. Tasting notes mention nuts, dried fruit, vanilla, bitter chocolate and mocha.
According to VinePair and Difford's Guide, the whisky matures exclusively in Spanish casks that held Oloroso sherry. It is not chill-filtered and has no added caramel. As with the brand's other lines, check the label of your batch: the year of bottling is especially useful, since cask mix and flavour can vary a little between releases. This sherry depth is usually closer to a dessert style than to light single malts.
Why this matters to you. This is an example of pure Oloroso without Pedro Ximenez: compare it with the 15-year Revival and the 21-year Parliament, which have mixed cask sets. The WHO reminds us: there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
