π Goruli Mtsvane
A white grape from Kartli, Georgia, used for dry and sparkling wines.
Goruli Mtsvane is a white grape from Kartli in Georgia. The name mtsvane means green in Georgian. Dry and sparkling wines are made from this grape. It is considered one of the main white grapes of central Georgia.
Kartli is a historic region in the centre of the country. The grape grows in Shida Kartli, especially in the Atenuri area, and also in Okami and Bolnisi. Nights are cool and days warm here, and the berries ripen with good acidity. Dry wines turn out fresh and light, with floral and apple notes.
Goruli Mtsvane suits sparkling wines well: high acidity gives them freshness and finesse. Sometimes wine is also made from it in the traditional Georgian way, in qvevri, with skin contact. It then becomes amber and fuller.
The grape belongs to Georgian wine and shows its variety: besides well-known grapes like Rkatsiteli, the country has many local ones.
