๐ Malvasia Istriana
An aromatic white grape of Istria, grown in Croatia, Slovenia and Italy.
Malvasia Istriana is a white aromatic grape from the Istrian peninsula in the northern Adriatic. It is grown in Croatia, Slovenia and Italy, in the Friuli region. Its main home is Croatian Istria, where it is seen as a symbol of local winemaking. It is not the same as other Malvasias; it is a separate variety.
Wines from it are usually dry and pale, with floral and fruity aromas, light minerality and fresh acidity. More full-bodied versions also exist, aged in oak or on the skins. The grape likes the warm sea nearby and the reddish soil of Istria.
Malvasia Istriana is part of Croatian wine: it grows in the wine zones of Croatian Istria and Istria and Kvarner. It is also valued in Friuli. It goes well with seafood, which is popular in this coastal land. Because of its freshness it is often served chilled, in warm weather and in summer.
