📜 Mercurey
The largest village of the Côte Chalonnaise, mostly with Pinot Noir reds.
Mercurey is the largest wine village in the Côte Chalonnaise, the southern part of Burgundy. The whole area is known for its wines. The village lies on hills south of the Côte d'Or.
Mostly red wines from Pinot Noir are made here. They are fruity, with notes of cherry and redcurrant, not as expensive as the wines of the northern Burgundy villages, but structured. There are also white wines from Chardonnay: fresh, with a light touch of oak.
Mercurey has premier cru vineyards. As everywhere in Burgundy, the label shows the village name and, for a special plot, its name.
Mercurey is a good way to get to know the Burgundy style without high prices. These are still wines that are drunk young and also after several years of ageing.
