📜 Rosso Cònero
A Montepulciano red from Monte Conero near Ancona.
Rosso Cònero is a red-wine appellation in the Marche region of eastern Italy. The vineyards lie on the slopes of Mount Conero, near the port of Ancona on the Adriatic coast.
The wine is made mainly from the Montepulciano grape. A little Sangiovese may be added. Mount Conero rises right above the sea, and the grapes grow on slopes with sea breezes and sun. This helps them ripen well, while cool nights keep the aroma.
The wine is dark ruby and full, with the aroma of black cherry, plum and spice, and soft tannin. It is usually affordable, and the best examples age for several years. It goes well with grilled meat, pasta and hard cheeses.
Rosso Cònero is a still red wine. It should not be confused with the wine from Abruzzo: both use the Montepulciano grape, but the places and styles differ.
