Alsace Grand Cru Brand is one of the grand cru vineyards of Alsace in eastern France. It lies on a steep slope above the town of Turckheim in the Haut-Rhin department. The soil is granite, the slope faces south and gets plenty of sun, and summers are dry.
The term grand cru means the site is recognised as one of the best in the region. Certain grapes are allowed for wine under the Brand name. These are Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris, along with other varieties from the permitted list. The wines are white and still, and in good years they can also be sweet.
Granite gives the wines minerality and freshness, while sun gives ripeness and a full taste. Brand is one of the region's 51 grand crus and follows the general rules on designation of origin. As with other grand crus, the label names the site, and yields are limited by strict rules.
