A white wine grape from the banks of the Rhine, making wines from dry to sweet.

Riesling is a white wine grape that originates from the banks of the Rhine in Germany. It is one of the best-known white grapes in the world. It gives wines from dry to very sweet, always with high acidity. The main areas are the Mosel, Rheingau, Alsace in France and the Wachau in Austria. Cool climate helps the berries ripen slowly and keep their acid. The wine is aromatic: flowers, green apple, peach and lime. With age, Riesling gains a special note reminiscent of kerosene or petrol, which many people like. Sweet wines are made from Riesling, including from frozen berries and from noble rot, as well as sparkling wine. The grape became a parent of many new varieties. Among them are MΓΌller-Thurgau, Kerner, Rotberger and Ostein. In Alsace Riesling grows on the best grand cru sites: Eichberg, Mambourg, Kirchberg de Barr and others. Dry Rieslings are served with fish and Asian cuisine, sweet ones with desserts and cheese. Its wines age well for decades.
