🥃 Blenders Pride
Indian whisky brand Blenders Pride, launched by Seagram's in 1995; owned by Pernod Ricard since 2001; grain spirit and Scotch malts; 40–42.8% ABV.
Blenders Pride, full name Seagram's Blenders Pride, is an Indian whisky brand that Seagram launched in 1995. Pernod Ricard has owned it since 2001. According to the producer, it is a blend of Indian grain spirit and imported Scotch malt whiskies from Chivas Brothers; the Rare Premium version is 42.8% ABV.
History. The brand appeared in India in the mid-1990s. When Seagram's Indian business passed to Pernod Ricard in 2001, Blenders Pride joined the Pernod Ricard India portfolio. In 2011 the premium Reserve Collection was added. According to Pernod Ricard India, the Reserve Collection sold more than a million cases for the first time in the financial year from July 2022 to June 2023.
How it is made. The producer's page for Rare Premium lists the ingredients: demineralised water, neutral grain spirit and a concentrate of Scotch malt whiskies. For the Reserve Collection, the company says the malts matured in European and American casks. In short, it is a blend in which neutral spirit forms the base and the malt whiskies give the flavour.
Range. Rare Premium is 42.8% ABV, Reserve Collection 40%. The brand belongs to the same group as the Indian Royal Stag and the Scotch Chivas Regal.
Why it matters to you. Indian 'whisky' follows different rules from Scotch. Under EU Regulation 2019/787, whisky must be distilled from cereals and aged at least 3 years in wooden casks, so a blend with neutral spirit does not automatically fall into that category. Check the label in your country of sale. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
