🥃 Chopin Potato
Potato line of the Polish Chopin vodka, launched in 1997; Stobrawa potatoes from Mazovia; four-column distillation; 40% ABV.
Chopin Potato is the basic potato vodka of the Chopin brand, produced since 1997. It is bottled at 40% ABV, and the line has no age statement, because it is vodka rather than whisky. According to Difford's Guide, the taste is soft and slightly sweet, with a light note of mashed potato, black pepper and Brazil nut.
The raw material is Stobrawa potatoes from Mazovia in Poland. The spirit is distilled in a four-column process, and according to the same source about ten pounds of potatoes go into one bottle. Compared with the Chopin rye line, this vodka is softer; the brand itself recommends drinking it neat, chilled, or in a martini. The sources give no details on filtration or other technical aspects of the potato line.
Why this matters to you. In the EU, potato vodka is still vodka with at least 37.5% ABV, and the raw material is listed on the label, which differs from one Chopin line to another. If you want to compare character, put the rye line of the same brand beside it. WHO reminds us: there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
