🥃 Sobieski Clear Vodka
The base vodka of the Sobieski brand, made from 100% Polish rye and spring water; column distilled; 40% or 37.5% ABV.
Sobieski Clear Vodka is the core, unflavoured vodka of the Sobieski brand. The official website calls it “100% rye”: it is made only from Polish rye. It is bottled in two strengths, 40% and 37.5% ABV. All of the brand's flavoured variants start from this vodka.
According to the official website, the rye is fermented and distilled in Poland by a continuous process in a column roughly 40 metres tall, reaching 96% ABV. It is then filtered, usually through charcoal, and diluted with spring water. Difford's Guide specifies the grain as Dankowskie rye from Mazovia; however, for the British market it names a Lithuanian producer, so check the place of bottling on the label.
Why this matters to you. This is the reference point for comparing Sobieski Grapefruit, Sobieski Vanilla and the other flavoured versions, where flavourings are added to the rye vodka. If you want a classic Polish rye vodka, compare it with Wyborowa and look for the words “Polska Wódka” on the label. The WHO reminds us: there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
