🥃 Hine Rare
The classic VSOP from the Hine house: a Fine Champagne cognac from over 20 spirits, more than half from Grande Champagne; 40% ABV.
Hine Rare is the classic VSOP cognac from the Hine house, now in a newer design called Rare the Original. It is a Fine Champagne: a blend of spirits from Grande and Petite Champagne only. The strength is 40% ABV, according to the importer Hotaling & Co. The version used to be called Rare VSOP.
According to the importer, the blend contains over 20 cognac spirits; more than half come from Grande Champagne and the rest from Petite Champagne. Difford's Guide says the faceted bottle of Rare copies a crystal decanter given to Robert Hine as a wedding gift. As with any cognac, Rare is made from white wine, distilled twice in copper pot stills and matured in oak barrels.
Why this matters to you. Rare sits between H by Hine VSOP, which is younger and lighter, and Hine XO 1er Cru, which uses only Grande Champagne. The VSOP designation refers to the age of the youngest spirit in the blend. The WHO reminds: there is no safe amount of alcohol.
