🥃 Rémy Martin VSOP
Rémy Martin VSOP cognac: Fine Champagne from Grande and Petite Champagne; 40% ABV.
Rémy Martin VSOP is a V.S.O.P. category cognac from the Rémy Martin house, a Fine Champagne blend from the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus. According to Difford's Guide, the strength is 40% ABV. It is the most accessible age-stated expression in the range, which the house dates to 1927.
Production. According to Difford's Guide, the blend is made from about 240 spirits: roughly 55% Grande Champagne and 45% Petite Champagne, aged from 4 to 12 years, and the blend then rests for another year in large vats. The house distils the wine on its lees in small copper stills and matures the spirits in Limousin oak. Under the AOC Cognac rules, the VSOP designation means the youngest spirit is at least 4 years old.
Why this matters to you. VSOP is a good point of comparison with other houses and with XO: it is younger, lighter and fruitier. The age on the label refers to the youngest spirit in the blend, not to the whole blend. Check the label. The WHO reminds us: there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
