🥃 Hine XO 1er Cru
The older cognac from the Hine house: an XO made only from Grande Champagne, with spirits at least 10 years old; 40% ABV.
Hine XO 1er Cru is an older cognac in the permanent Hine range. It is made only from Grande Champagne spirits, the first cru of cognac. The strength is 40% ABV, according to the importer Hotaling & Co. According to Beverage Information Group, the spirits in it are at least 10 years old.
For a long time the house's flagship was Antique XO: Difford's Guide says it was created by Georges Hine in 1920. In 2010, according to Morning Advertiser, it was relaunched as Antique XO Premier Cru: over 40 cognacs from Grande Champagne only, at least 10 years old. Whether XO 1er Cru continues this line exactly is not stated in the sources. The cognac is distilled twice and matured in oak barrels.
Why this matters to you. Unlike Hine Rare, this one has a single cru, Grande Champagne, rather than a Fine Champagne blend. Under cognac rules, the XO designation means that the youngest spirit is at least 10 years old. The WHO reminds: there is no safe amount of alcohol.
