🍇 Irsai Olivér
A white Muscat-type grape bred in Hungary in 1930, giving aromatic young wines.
Irsai Olivér is a white muscat grape bred in Hungary in 1930. It gives aromatic young wines smelling of muscat, flowers and peach.
The parents of the grape are known: Pearl of Csaba and Pozsonyi. From Pearl of Csaba it inherited the muscat aroma and early ripening. The vine ripens early, so it grows well even in cool places. It is grown in Hungary and several neighbouring countries.
Irsai Olivér makes light, fresh white wines that are usually drunk young. They recall wines from other muscat grapes a little. They are often served chilled, as an aperitif or with fruit. The grape is also used as a table grape, and the berries can be eaten fresh.
Irsai Olivér is an example of how Hungarian breeders created new varieties in the 20th century. This grape is in the pedigree of other varieties, such as Cserszegi Fűszeres.
