Lisbon (Lisboa) is a wine region on Portugal's Atlantic coast, around the capital, with hills sheltered from ocean wind by a coastal ridge. It is part of Portuguese winemaking. The region holds regional-wine (IGP) status and combines several smaller zones: Colares, Bucelas, Carcavelos, Alenquer, Torres Vedras, Óbidos and others.

The climate is mild and Atlantic, with cool winds. Soils vary: clay, limestone, sand. Whites include Arinto (fresh wines with high acidity), Fernão Pires and Vital; reds include Castelão, Tinta Miúda, Arruda and international grapes.

Each zone has its own character. Bucelas is famous for whites from Arinto. Colares has sandy soils by the ocean, where vines grow on their own roots. Carcavelos is known for fortified wine. Alenquer, Torres Vedras and Óbidos give varied reds and whites.

The region is large in volume, so there are many inexpensive wines, but quality is rising. South of the Tagus lies the Setúbal Peninsula. In this region it is easy to taste wines at small estates within an hour of the capital, and white Arinto goes well with seafood.
