Three of them are wine-growing regions: Codru in the centre of the country, Ștefan Vodă in the south-east and Valul lui Traian in the south. The fourth is linked to divin, the Moldovan brandy made from grape spirit.
Grapes have been grown in Moldova for a very long time, and wine is one of the country’s main industries. Under an IGP the wine must be made from grapes grown in the area and under agreed rules. This helps the buyer see where the wine comes from, and the producer to protect the name.
The Moldovan IGPs belong to Moldovan wine as a whole. Their place in the system is similar to the PGIs of other European countries, where such indications rank one step below designations of origin. Alcohol is for adults.
