The country's wine and winemaking: regions, grapes, appellations.

Moldovan wine is the wine and winemaking of Moldova. The country is small, but viticulture is one of its main industries, and vineyards lie almost everywhere.

Moldova is divided into wine zones: Codru in the centre, Valul lui Traian in the south, Ștefan Vodă in the south-east and Bălți in the north. Both international grapes, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, and local ones are grown: Fetească Albă, Fetească Regală, Rară Neagră, Fetească Neagră. Among the names are specifically Moldovan ones too: Coarnă Neagră, Coarnă Albă, Tigvoasă, Țâța Caprei, Frumoasă Albă, Flamingo.

Huge underground cellars are well known, holding millions of bottles. The country produces wine of several categories: ordinary, vintage-label and collection wine. Fortified wine, dessert wine, Kagor and Divin, the Moldovan brandy, are also made. Moldovan wines are protected by the IGP system. They are part of the wines of Europe but are still little known outside the region. In recent years winemakers have been betting on quality, local grapes and exports.
